This is the first time I’ve ever known a model to have plenty of reason for being built, but being able to go in many different directions. Should it be a kind of ute-style warm hatch? Should it try to be a slightly more interesting and impractical Honda Ridgeline? Does it need to truck? What specs would make this work for you? What size should this be and how big does the bed need to be? What MSRP range, drivetrain, tech, and other specs would make you consider walking into a Hyundai dealership? Oppo, tell me what this vehicle needs to be in order for it to work for Hyundai.

I want Hyundai to make something like a Foton Tunland.

Cheap, simple, reliable, and utilitarian. What a Hyundai truck should be.

They’ll play the wait and see. If the Ridgeline sells well, then they can enter with the Santa Cruz as a competitor that looks more sporty and has a great warranty.

If the Ridgeline sells poorly, then they’ll continue to hold off on it. But it would nice if in this case, they took a risk and adapted it and sold it as a ute. But if they really wanted a truck and the Ridgeline sold poorly, then they’ll be better off just making it an honest truck to compete with the Tacoma.

To me the Hyundai would either have to be much cheaper, or much sportier than the Ridgeline.

If the Ridgeline drives like an Accord then I don’t Hyundai is going to out sport it. Styling definitely, but not in any other aspect.

It needs to be relatively inexpensive, like 23k. Even when equipped with AWD. It has to be very comfortable. Some sort of pass through from the bed to the cab would be nice for taking longer things. Be able to mount a hitch and roof bars for racks since it doesn’t have a big enough bed for bikes. And it needs to be comfy.

Basically, it needs to be cheaper and efficienter enough to make me look at the Tacoma and go “nah”, this’ll do. Because right now, for guys like me who want a vehicle for transporting toys and camping, the Tacoma is the cheapest/best option. Which is why I’m looking for one even though I don’t really want a truck.
